First step on studing music
Everybody's tried at least once to play music on his/her life. So in this article we will describe some basic concept concerning a starting level music etudant. First of all: let us examinates what music is composed of.
-Rhythm
-Melody
-Harmony
-Instruments
-Human choices This list is very important and we analyze each list item in order to get closer with music and starting our musical activity with these knowledges. RHYTHM:
This is the most important side of the music. By the rhythm you can distinguish the different kinds of music. Think about latin music, jazz music, pop music: each one has some pre-definited basic rhythms, developed by artist in thier composition.
Rhythm means that you are playing in a particular style if you are playing a particular sequence of notes and music values.
Rhythm means also that one of the most important thing is being just like a clock: the precision of the rhythm. If not, you and the audience will never join of the music! MELODY:
Anhoter important part of the music. This is fundamentally made of a single line of notes, usually played one per music value.
The melody is often the more recognizable sound in a song, like the voice of the singer or a lead instrument, like electric guitar.
The melody is the place where you can find happyness, sadness and joy in a song. When it is sung the melody is enriched with words, spelled according with the rhythm of the song.
Fundamentally melody is a group of notes tha will be repeated a number of times, like in poetry, creating a sense in the song: you can repeat the same phrase, or repeat with some changes. HARMONY:
This is considered the complex side of the music: it is composed of chords, a group of notes played at the same time.
Harmony consist of some rules that a songwriter can modify to give the birth to a song.
Usually the harmony of a song is played by piano, guitar or ensambles, where all the members play o single voice of the harmony at the same time.
Like as for the rhythm, harmony is used to give a connotation to the music style, so you can find some harmonic progression on each style used often in the songs. INSTRUMENTS:
Instruments emit the music. Choosing an instrument is always a important and sometimes an hard work!
Usually a person feels that an istrument is its favourite, for some acustic reasons, or because a friend also play it.
There are a lot of instruments we can group in some family: percussions, like a drums, harmonic instruments, like guitar and piano, brass and wind instruments, like saxophone trumpet and others.
Each instruments has some advantages and some disadvantages: for example guitar is both harmonic and melodic instrument. This mean that you have the advantage to play both, but you are limited beacuse guitar has only six strings.
Trumpet is a melodic instrument, you can play only a single note per time but it has a great expressivity and deepness and richness of sound. HUMAN CHOICES:
Human choices means tha when a person decides to play an instrument or study or do it for someone must know that the music will face you a lot of choices in our life and in our music style.
I mean that everybody needs years of harmonic, melodic an technical search and at the end you have all the "weapons" to manage notes and sounds and your instrument.
This mean that manupilating an instrument give some feeling to the listner and a real musician should be the vehicle of these feelings.
Don't forget that each style and thecnique give a character to your music so give some particular feeling to the listener.
Dont forget that music is happyness too and communication to the listener and other musician: improvisation in music ia great aspect. It lets you to play a melody that you own and can give a rich expression to a song and all the music. |
